Frequently asked questions

Who is this test for?

It is for women who want a focused measurement of anti-Mullerian hormone, the marker most used to assess ovarian reserve. It suits those planning egg freezing, preparing for fertility treatment, or wanting a straightforward indicator of reproductive timing.

Do I need to test on a particular day of my cycle?

No. AMH remains relatively stable throughout the cycle, which is one of its practical advantages. You can test on any day, including while your period is ongoing.

How is this different from the Ovarian Reserve panel?

This is a single focused marker. The Ovarian Reserve panel adds FSH, LH and oestradiol, giving a broader view of how your ovaries are functioning rather than the egg pool alone. Choose this one if you specifically need an AMH figure, such as for a clinic that has requested it.

Will an IVF clinic accept this result?

Most clinics accept recent AMH results from UKAS-accredited laboratories, which is what we use, though some prefer to repeat testing in their own lab. It is worth confirming with your clinic before booking so that you do not pay twice.

Does AMH tell me about egg quality?

No. AMH reflects quantity, not quality. Egg quality is most closely related to age, and a woman with a high AMH in her forties will not have the egg quality of a woman in her twenties. Both factors matter when considering fertility.
