How to prepare for this test
To ensure accurate results:

Take your sample between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM

Avoid vigorous exercise and sexual activity for 48 hours beforehand
-
Avoid nipple stimulation or heavy meals prior to testing (to reduce prolactin spikes)

Only take the test when any short-term illness has resolved
-
If you have periods, take the test 2–5 days after your period begins (ideally on day 3)
-
If you do not have periods, the test can be taken at any time
-
Avoid fatty foods for 8 hours before your test (fasting is not required)

Stay well hydrated
-
Do not take biotin supplements for 2 days before your test (unless prescribed – consult your doctor)

Take your sample at least 24 hours after any vitamin or mineral supplements

Hormonal contraception may affect results — consider taking a break and waiting for your periods to restart

If you take thyroxine, continue as normal

If you take liothyronine or desiccated thyroid extract (DTE), take it after your blood draw

Let us know if you take amiodarone or lithium, as these may affect thyroid results
