How to prepare for this test

-
Test within 2 hours of waking if you're measuring cortisol
-
Avoid vigorous exercise and sexual activity for 48 hours prior
-
Avoid heavy meals and nipple stimulation (to reduce prolactin/cortisol spikes)
-
If menstruating: test between day 2–5 of your cycle (ideally on day 3)
-
If not menstruating: test at any time
-
Avoid fatty foods for 8 hours before testing (fasting not required)
-
Stay well hydrated
-
Avoid supplements (iron, B12, vitamins) for at least 24–48 hours before testing
-
Do not take biotin supplements 2 days prior (unless prescribed)
-
Hormonal contraception may affect results — consider pausing for more accurate readings
-
Continue thyroxine as usual; take liothyronine or DTE after your blood draw
-
Let us know if you take amiodarone or lithium, as these may affect thyroid results
