How to prepare for this test

To ensure accurate results:

  • Take your sample between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM

  • Only take the test when any short-term illness has resolved

  • If you have periods, take the test 2–5 days after your period begins (ideally on day 3)

  • If you do not have periods, the test can be taken at any time

  • Avoid intense exercise for 48 hours beforehand

  • Avoid fatty foods for 8 hours before the test (fasting not required)

  • Stay well hydrated

  • Take your sample at least 24 hours after any vitamin or mineral supplements

  • Avoid biotin supplements for 2 days before your test (unless prescribed – consult your GP)

  • Do not take vitamin B12 for 2 weeks before your test unless prescribed — check with your doctor

  • Hormonal contraception may affect results — for the most accurate readings, consider pausing and waiting for your period to return

  • If you take thyroxine, continue as usual

  • If you take liothyronine or desiccated thyroid extract (DTE), take it after your blood draw

  • Let us know if you take amiodarone or lithium, as these may affect thyroid results
