Frequently asked questions

Who is this test for?

It is for women trying to conceive, or planning to, who want to understand their hormonal picture. It assesses AMH, FSH, LH, oestradiol, prolactin and thyroid function, all of which influence ovulation and early pregnancy.

When in my cycle should I take it?

Days two to five for the main hormone panel. If progesterone is included to confirm ovulation, that requires a separate sample around day 21 of a 28 day cycle, or seven days before your next period is due if your cycle differs in length.

Why is thyroid function included in a fertility test?

Thyroid disorders interfere with ovulation and are associated with a higher risk of miscarriage. Thyroid problems are common in women of reproductive age, easily treated, and routinely checked as part of any fertility assessment.

How long should we be trying before testing?

General guidance is to seek assessment after twelve months of trying, or after six months if you are over 35. That said, testing earlier is reasonable if you have irregular periods, known gynaecological conditions, or simply want the information sooner.

Should my partner be tested too?

It is worth considering, as male factors contribute to around half of fertility difficulties. Hormone testing is available for men, though semen analysis is the primary investigation. Contact us at hello@nuvivo.co.uk to discuss the right combination.
