What does the CA19-9 Blood Test measure?
This test measures CA19-9, a protein used as a monitoring marker in pancreatic and biliary health. It is interpreted alongside imaging and clinical assessment.
Who is this test for?
People under specialist care who are tracking levels over time. It is not a screening test and any persistent abdominal pain, jaundice or unexplained weight loss needs proper medical assessment.
How do I prepare for this test?
- Fasting required 8-12 hours before the test (water only), recommended for glucose and cholesterol/triglyceride accuracy
- Sample timing: between 7:00am and 10:00am
- Stay hydrated; avoid strenuous exercise, heavy meals, and supplements (iron, B12, multivitamins, biotin) for 48 hours prior
