Frequently asked questions
Who is this test for?
It is for adults who are eating well and exercising but seeing little change on the scales. It looks at the internal factors that can make weight loss harder, including thyroid function, blood sugar and insulin regulation, and hormones that influence appetite and fat storage.
Do I need to fast before this test?
Yes. Please fast for 10 to 12 hours before your appointment, drinking only water. Fasting is required because glucose and insulin readings are strongly affected by recent food, and those markers are central to this panel.
Can this test tell me why I am not losing weight?
It can identify measurable physiological factors that make weight loss harder, such as an underactive thyroid or insulin resistance. It cannot account for every cause, as sleep, stress, medication and calorie intake also play a large part. Your doctor-reviewed report explains what your results suggest and what to consider next.
What if my results all come back normal?
That is a genuinely useful outcome. It rules out the common hormonal and metabolic causes, which means the focus can shift confidently to diet composition, activity, sleep and stress rather than wondering whether something underlying is being missed.
Can I have this test done at home?
Yes. A qualified nurse can visit your home to take the sample, or you can attend our Livingston clinic or a partner clinic. As you need to fast, most people prefer an early morning appointment.
