The CA-125 blood test measures the level of cancer antigen 125, a protein that can rise in certain cancers and non-cancerous conditions. It is most commonly used in the monitoring of ovarian cancer, but may also be requested as part of investigations into pelvic or abdominal symptoms.

How to prepare for this test
- No fasting is required before this test
- Try to avoid heavy exercise on the morning of your appointment
- Let the nurse know if you are currently on your period, as this may affect CA-125 levels
- Continue taking any prescribed medication as normal, unless advised otherwise by your doctor
Important information:
This test is not a standalone diagnostic for cancer CA-125 can also be raised in benign conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease, menstruation, or liver disease
