Frequently asked questions
Who is this test for?
It is for adults wanting to assess cardiovascular risk, particularly those with a family history of heart disease, raised blood pressure, diabetes, or who smoke. It covers a full lipid profile, inflammatory markers and blood sugar control.
Do I need to fast before this test?
Yes, fast for 10 to 12 hours with water only. While non-fasting lipids are increasingly accepted, fasting gives the most accurate triglyceride measurement and makes results comparable if you retest later.
Does this test show whether I am having heart problems now?
No, and this is important. This panel assesses long term cardiovascular risk. It does not detect a heart attack or acute cardiac event. If you have chest pain, breathlessness at rest, or pain spreading to the arm or jaw, call 999 immediately rather than booking a blood test.
Can I lower my cholesterol before retesting?
Meaningful change takes time. Dietary and lifestyle changes typically show measurable effect after eight to twelve weeks, so retesting sooner than three months rarely reflects your efforts accurately.
