Frequently asked questions

Who is this test for?

It is for men who have noticed a persistent drop in sex drive. It measures testosterone and SHBG, prolactin, thyroid function and iron status, which together cover the common hormonal reasons libido falls.

When should the sample be taken?

Between 7am and 10am, because testosterone is highest in the morning. Testing later in the day frequently produces an artificially low reading and leads to unnecessary worry or inappropriate treatment.

Can thyroid problems really affect libido?

Yes. Both an underactive and an overactive thyroid reduce sex drive, and thyroid dysfunction is common and very treatable. It is included here because it is often overlooked when the focus goes straight to testosterone.

Do I need to fast?

Fasting is not essential for this panel unless metabolic markers are included for you. Drink water as normal beforehand.

Will low libido always show up in blood results?

No. Stress, depression, poor sleep, relationship factors, alcohol and several common medications reduce libido without altering hormone levels. This panel identifies or excludes the physical causes so that you know where to focus.
