Blood draw options

You can choose how your venous blood sample is collected:

• Clinic visit – Book at our private clinic in Livingston (EH54 8PT)

• Nurse home visit – Available across West Lothian and Edinburgh (+£59)

Samples are taken by trained professionals using sterile, single-use equipment.

Results turnaround

Results are typically available within 3 working days from when the lab receives your sample.

How to prepare

• Take your sample between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM

• If menstruating: test on day 2–5 of your cycle (ideally day 3)

• If not menstruating: test any time

• Avoid using fingers exposed to hormone creams/gels in the last 4 weeks

• Use gloves when applying topical hormones going forward

• Avoid biotin supplements for 2 days prior (unless prescribed)

• Continue thyroxine as usual; take liothyronine or DTE after the blood draw

• Let us know if you take amiodarone or lithium, as these may affect thyroid readings

• Hormonal contraception may affect results
