Muscle Pain & Weakness Blood Test
13 Biomarkers | Venous Blood Test | CE-marked | UKAS-accredited | Doctor-reviewed results with personalised interpretation.
A focused blood test checking markers linked to muscle pain, cramps, weakness, inflammation and poor recovery, including creatine kinase, magnesium, vitamin D, B12, folate, ferritin, CRP and cholesterol markers. Designed for people investigating ongoing muscle aches, weakness or slow recovery, this profile gives clear, clinically reviewed insight into nutritional, inflammatory and muscle-related markers so you can better understand your results.
Results are typically available within 2 working days from when your sample reaches the laboratory, excluding weekends and bank holidays.

How to prepare
- Fasting required 8–12 h before the test (water only) recommended for glucose, cholesterol/triglyceride accuracy
- Sample timing: between 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- Stay hydrated; avoid strenuous exercise, heavy meals, and supplements (iron, B12, multivitamins, biotin) for 48 hours prior
- Continue prescribed medications unless otherwise directed
Frequently asked questions
Who is this test for?
It is for adults with ongoing muscle aches, cramping, weakness or heaviness in the limbs that is not explained by a recent workout. It assesses muscle enzymes, vitamin D, electrolytes including calcium and magnesium, thyroid function and inflammation.
Should I exercise before this test?
No. Please avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours beforehand. Hard training raises creatine kinase, a muscle enzyme included in this panel, which can produce a raised result that reflects your workout rather than an underlying problem.
Can statins cause muscle pain, and will this test show it?
Statins are a recognised cause of muscle aching in some people. This panel measures creatine kinase, which is the marker clinicians use when assessing statin-related muscle effects. Do not stop a prescribed statin before testing or because of a result. Discuss any change with the clinician who prescribed it.
Do I need to fast?
Fasting is not required for this panel. Continue to drink water normally, as dehydration can affect electrolyte and kidney readings.
Could low vitamin D be the cause?
It can contribute. Low vitamin D is associated with muscle aching and weakness, and it is common in the UK, particularly through the winter. This panel measures your level so it can be corrected if it is low.
