How to prepare
How to prepare
- Take your sample between 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- If menstruating: test between day 2–5 of your cycle (ideally day 3)
- If not menstruating: test on any day
- If cortisol is separately ordered: test within 2 hours of waking
- Avoid strenuous exercise, sex, and nipple stimulation for 48 hours prior
- Avoid fatty meals for 8 hours before testing
- Stay well hydrated
- Avoid supplements (iron, B12, vitamins, biotin) for 48 hours
- Stop biotin 2 days before testing (unless prescribed)
- Continue thyroxine as normal; take liothyronine or DTE after your blood draw
- Inform us if you take amiodarone or lithium
- Hormonal contraception may affect results — consider pausing if accuracy is essential
