Frequently asked questions
Who is this test for?
It is a general health and hormone review for adult men, covering testosterone, thyroid function, a full blood count, liver and kidney function, cholesterol and key vitamins.
What time of day should I be tested?
Book between 7am and 10am. Testosterone follows a daily rhythm and is highest in the morning. A sample taken in the afternoon can appear low even when your levels are entirely normal, which is a common cause of misleading results.
Do I need to fast?
Yes, please fast for 10 to 12 hours and drink only water, so that cholesterol and glucose can be measured accurately. This pairs well with the recommended early appointment.
Does this test measure free testosterone as well as total?
Panels differ, and the product page lists exactly which markers are included. Free or bioavailable testosterone is clinically useful because SHBG levels affect how much testosterone is actually available to your tissues. If you need the fuller picture, contact us at hello@nuvivo.co.uk before booking.
Can I have this done at home?
Yes. A qualified nurse can attend your home, or you can visit our Livingston clinic or a partner clinic. Because a morning fasted sample is needed, early home visits are popular for this panel.
