Frequently asked questions

Who is this test for?

It is for athletes and regular trainers wanting to optimise performance and recovery, or to investigate stalled progress, unusual fatigue or frequent illness. It covers hormones, iron status, muscle and inflammatory markers, vitamins and metabolic health.

Should I train before the test?

No. Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours beforehand. Hard training raises creatine kinase, inflammatory markers and liver enzymes, and temporarily alters hormone levels, so a post-workout sample tells you about your session rather than your baseline.

When should I book my appointment?

In the morning before 10am, fasted for 10 to 12 hours with water only. Testosterone and cortisol both peak in the morning, so this timing is necessary for meaningful hormone interpretation.

Why does iron matter so much for endurance athletes?

Iron is essential for oxygen transport, and endurance athletes lose it through sweat, foot strike haemolysis and gut losses. Depleted stores reduce aerobic capacity and slow recovery well before anaemia appears, which is why ferritin is measured rather than haemoglobin alone.

How often should I retest?

Many athletes test at key points in a training cycle, such as pre-season, mid-block and after a competition phase, which usually means every three to four months. Consistent conditions each time, including the same time of day and rest status, make the comparison meaningful.
