Frequently asked questions

Who is this test for?

It is for adults whose main symptom is persistent tiredness and who want to know whether the thyroid is responsible. It pairs thyroid function testing with the other common causes of fatigue, including iron stores, B12, folate and a full blood count.

Why not just test the thyroid on its own?

Because thyroid disease accounts for only a portion of fatigue cases. Iron deficiency and B12 deficiency are at least as common, and testing only the thyroid frequently returns a normal result that leaves you no further forward.

How should I prepare?

Stop biotin supplements for 48 hours, as they interfere with thyroid assays. Where possible, pause iron and B12 supplements for one to two weeks so deficiencies are not masked. Fasting is not required.

I take levothyroxine. Does that change anything?

Take your sample before your daily dose and keep the timing consistent between tests. If you remain tired despite treatment and normal TSH, our Advanced Thyroid Blood Test adds free T3 and antibodies, which can explain persistent symptoms.

How quickly will I get my results?

Most results are available within 2 to 4 working days of the laboratory receiving your sample, with a secure email notification when your report is ready in your patient portal.
