Frequently asked questions
Who is this test for?
It suits adults whose symptoms could stem from either thyroid dysfunction or a sex hormone imbalance, as the two overlap considerably. It combines thyroid assessment with reproductive hormone measurement in a single appointment.
Why test thyroid and sex hormones together?
Fatigue, weight change, low mood, hair thinning and reduced libido are produced by both thyroid disorders and hormonal imbalance. Testing them separately often means paying twice and still not knowing which is responsible. Thyroid function also directly affects menstrual regularity and fertility.
When should I take this test?
For women with regular cycles, days two to five give the clearest hormone baseline. For men, book a morning appointment before 10am so testosterone is measured at its peak. Stop biotin supplements for 48 hours in either case.
Does contraception or HRT affect the results?
Yes, both alter the sex hormone readings, though thyroid markers are less affected. Results remain useful when interpreted in context, so please tell us what you are taking when booking.
Do I need to fast?
Fasting is not required for this panel unless metabolic markers are included for you. Drink water as normal.
